Hyundai Construction Equipment introduced a bold new concept at this year’s bauma exhibition with the debut of the HX230e, a full-size electric crawler excavator. Weighing in at 25 tonnes, the machine is powered by a 420kWh battery pack, delivering up to eight hours of autonomous operation between charges. For extended working shifts, an optional 503kWh battery will also be available.
The HX230e features a regular AC charging input alongside a rapid CCS2 DC fast-charging system for quick turnaround times. Its electric powertrain includes an e-pump that drives the machine’s hydraulic system, an e-swing slew motor, and an advanced e-Thermal Management System. An Auto sleep mode further optimizes energy use during idle periods.
Hyundai confirmed that the HX230e is expected to enter production by the end of 2027, signaling a significant step forward in the transition to emission-free heavy equipment for construction and earthmoving sectors.
